Physiotherapy Byron Bay
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapists are part of the allied health services, which can be defined as people who are trained in a specific field and work as part of the greater health care system.
Physiotherapy is a four year degree involving hands-on, practical learning as well as a deep foundational knowledge of physical anatomy. Physiotherapy is a science-based and evidence-based practice.
Physiotherapy is part of musculoskeletal or Sport Medicine, and focusses on the muscles, ligaments and joints of the body. Physiotherapists work with acute and chronic or long-term injuries, as well as preventing injuries in sportspeople. Physiotherapy is also helpful for pain where there has been no particular injury, such as back, knee or shoulder pain related to age or physical work.
Here at The Bright Side Clinic in Byron Bay, we are proud to have Michael Nyguen joining our team as a Physiotherapist. Michael is Australian-trained with an extensive background in his educational and practical experience. He has worked with world-leaders in the management of chronic pain and we are excited to be able to offer his expertise to the people of Byron Bay and the surrounding areas.
Here are some examples of the conditions that can benefit from physiotherapy:
- – Back pain
- – Shoulder pain
- – Neck pain
- – Headaches including migraines
- – Bruxism – clenching or grinding your teeth at night
- – Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- – Knee pain
- – Ankle and foot pain
- – Old injuries
- – New injuries
- – Chronic pain
- – Sports injuries
- – Tennis Elbow
- – Hip pain
- – Rehabilitation after injury
- – Rehabilitation after a stroke
This is definitely not a complete list of everything a physiotherapist can help with – that list is too long for here! If you have concerns about pain you’re experiencing, your first port of call should be your GP. They will assess you and discuss with you what the next steps should be, including whether physiotherapy could help. They will be able to explain the process of getting to the bottom of your pain and getting you back to the things you love to do.
Physiotherapy can be partly funded by Medicare for eligible patients. It is also covered by most health funds’ extras programmes.
If you have any questions about physiotherapy, whether it’s right for you, or your eligibility under Medicare, please give us a call at The Bright Side Clinic on 02 6680 7788.
